Offshore HVAC commissioning
Balancing, testing and documentation of HVAC systems on platforms in the North Sea and internationally.
Commissioning ventilation and HVAC offshore
On an offshore platform, HVAC is a safety function. Ventilation keeps living quarters and safe areas at overpressure so gas cannot get in, and dampers and fans must respond correctly when the platform's fire and gas detection raises an alarm. At the same time, the crew needs a decent indoor climate around the clock. IM Service commissions and balances HVAC systems offshore — from individual systems to commissioning every HVAC unit on an entire rig. We verify that airflows, pressures and controls meet the specification, and document everything in the operator's format so the systems can be handed over to operations.

From mechanical completion to operation
Offshore commissioning happens in phases. After mechanical completion we check the installation and start up the systems. Then we balance air and water flows and set the pressure regime between areas. Finally we carry out functional tests of controls and shutdown together with the platform's other systems. Each phase ends with documentation and a list of any outstanding items, so the operator always knows how far the HVAC systems have come.
New installations and modifications
We work on new installations and on modification projects where new modules or systems have to be integrated on a platform that has been in operation for decades. On modifications it is essential to understand the existing HVAC installation before balancing — otherwise you simply move the problems from one area to another.
The North Sea and internationally
Our technicians have worked on platforms in the Danish, Norwegian and British sectors of the North Sea and carried out work in the Middle East. We know the procedures for working offshore, complete the required safety training and work within the operator's HSE system.
What we offer
Air and water balancing
Balancing airflows and chilled water circuits in every module, from living quarters to technical and control rooms.
Pressurisation
Measuring and setting overpressure and pressure differences between areas, so safe areas stay safe.
Damper and shutdown testing
Functional testing of fire and gas dampers and HVAC shutdown together with the platform's safety systems.
Mechanical completion and start-up
Checking the installation, starting up the systems and recording punch items to be closed before handover.
Supervision and coordination
Supervision of HVAC work and coordination with other disciplines and the operator's commissioning team.
Documentation and handover
Test protocols, measurement reports and handover material in the operator's format.
Frequently asked questions
What does offshore HVAC commissioning include?
Typically checking the installation, start-up, air and water balancing, setting pressurisation, functional testing of dampers and shutdown, and documentation and handover to operations. We can take on a single system or the commissioning of every HVAC unit on an entire rig.
Do your technicians have the required offshore training?
Yes. We complete the safety training required to work offshore, and we handle travel planning and mobilization ourselves.
Do you work in the Danish, Norwegian and British sectors?
Yes. Our technicians have worked on platforms in all three sectors of the North Sea.
Can you deliver documentation in our format?
Yes. We deliver test protocols and reports in the operator's format, so they can go straight into your handover documentation.
